Akio

At Akio in Nerima Ward's Kitamachi, enjoy an elaborate tray of small seasonal dishes followed by delicate handmade soba in an unhurried Japanese dining setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A colorful assortment of thoughtfully crafted small dishes lines the serving tray at Akio. Situated in a corner of Kitamachi, Nerima Ward, this Japanese restaurant offers a serene space to savor delicate small plates alongside freshly made hand-cut soba noodles.
Visiting at lunchtime, the generous assortment of appetizers served before the noodles is not to be missed. Around 9 individual small bowls—featuring simmered vegetables, dressed salads, and seasonal bites—are arranged with care, drawing the eye with their handsome tableware and inviting you to pick up your chopsticks. Each dish offers a rustic yet deep flavor profile that naturally pairs with a quiet sip of sake.
The handmade soba that follows arrives cut into neat, slender strands. Sampling a bite plain or with a light pinch of salt before dipping highlights the pure aroma and clarity of the buckwheat. After finishing the noodles with the mellow, dashi-rich dipping broth, warm cooking water (sobayu) is poured in so you can enjoy the comforting broth down to the last drop.
Evenings invite a slower pace over evening appetizers, sake-lees simmered tripe, and sweet hana-mame beans alongside sake or beer. Finishing with comforting sweets like soba yokan brings a quiet, deeply satisfying meal to a close.
